FBAUP Types

Bolas is a display typeface with rounded, expressive shapes and a playful touch. It was developed as part of the Type Design course in the Master’s in Graphic Design and Editorial Projects at FBAUP.

Designed for titles, posters, covers, and other applications where visual impact is key, Bolas stands out in large sizes thanks to its bold, geometric style. It’s not a font that goes unnoticed — it’s made to catch the eye.

I’m Maria Figueiredo (Maria Figas), a graphic designer from Louriceira, a village in Santarém. I hold a degree in Design from IADE – Universidade Europeia and am currently taking a break from the Master’s in Graphic Design and Editorial Projects at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Porto to gain more professional experience.

My work focuses on graphic design, editorial, branding, and motion. I’m currently collaborating as a freelancer with Quinta da Falorca, developing design and communication projects. Previously, I interned at Stolen Books, where I deepened my knowledge in editorial design and printing.

Usage Guidelines — Bolas is a display typeface, ideal for titles, posters, covers, packaging, and other creative visual communication media. It is recommended for use at large sizes, where its graphic personality stands out. It can be used in both print and digital media. It works well in bold compositions with strong visual impact.

Restrictions and Recommendations — Free for personal and commercial use. Resale, redistribution, or modification without the author’s permission is not allowed. Not recommended for long blocks of text or body copy due to its decorative style. For balanced compositions, it is advisable to pair it with more neutral typefaces.
