HELVONI
About the Font
Intrigued by the supreme craftsmanship of two of the most renowned typefaces ever created, the iconic Helvetica and Bodoni, I sought to develop a typeface that bridges these two distinct realms. The resulting typeface, Helvoni, delves into a contemporary and experimental universe, skillfully merging two contrasting typographic legacies.
The typeface draws inspiration from the attitude and philosophy of Virgil Abloh, embracing a boundary-crossing approach that defies conventional norms with expressive creativity. Transcending the conventional functions of foundational typefaces, the result is a typography that is minimally tied to functional utility and heavily oriented towards contextual relevance.
This typography was selected to the "Project Gallery" in the 12º Nacional Typography Meeting, in Portugal.
I am Rui Marques (b. 2002), a communication designer with a passion for typography and design. I explore projects through concepts with an experimental and sensory approach. With a BA in Communication Design from FBAUP (PT), I am a multidisciplinary designer aiming to defy boundaries. I firmly believe that learning is the foundation of progress, and I am constantly seeking new knowledge and skills to enhance my craft.
