Massarelos
About the Font
It was my first time using FontLab, and based on the metal plaques that signed the projects of the Massarellos Foundry, I created a typeface.
The Massarellos Foundry, in Porto, produced metal structures and cast iron elements that helped shape the city in the 19th century. I like how time has worn down the once-straight corners of the metal letters. I also tried to imagine what the lowercase letters might have looked like, since only uppercase ones were available.
Antônio Pereira is a 21-year-old student and graphic designer from São Paulo, Brazil, currently based in Portugal.
Having grown up in both big cities and rural areas, Antônio seeks to bring these experiences into his work and firmly believes in the power and potential of design to collectively communicate and transform society and the world. He studies Design at FBAUP – Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto, where he is also politically active as a member of the student union.
Antônio works as a freelance graphic designer and illustrator, creating projects for clients and companies. In his free time, he is curious and creative, making music, skateboarding, and exploring streets and diverse environments.
